VELMA GERALDINE BARTON JOHNSON Velma Geraldine Barton Johnson, 91, formerly of Newhall, passed away Friday, August 4, 2023 at The Maples in Bluefield, West Virginia. Although, Geraldine passed away on 4th of August, her soul will continue living on through her adoring family and friends. Geraldine was a caring and lovable woman, who throughout her lifetime, devoted herself to her religion, and the people around her. Born in 1932 to a large family in Berwind, West Virginia she was an intelligent and motivated woman. She remained a faithful Christian her entire life and made a family out of her church group. We know that God is pleased to have one of his generous and kind angels back in his arms where she belongs. She will be sorely missed by those on earth. She is the daughter of the late Elijah (Lige) Barton and Carrie Cook Barton. Geraldine was happily married for 53 years to the love of her life the late Earl J Johnson. She is also proceeded in death by a son Earl Elijah Johnson (Pedro) and her siblings Clarence Barton, Emory Barton, Ervin Barton, Roscoe Barton, Thelma Sparks, Dolly Barton, Lettie Barton, and Shirley Hicks. Left to cherish her memory is a son William (Peanut) Johnson and wife Colleen of Stanley, North Carolina. One daughter Diana Sparks of Rocky Gap, Virginia. One brother Wayne Barton and wife Susie of Linwood, North Carolina. One sister Darlene Linkous and husband William of Rocky Gap, Virginia. Five grandsons, Billy Johnson and partner Sarah of Stanley, North Carolina. Jason Barton and fiancé, Victoria of South Point, Ohio, Matthew Thomas of Rocky Gap, VA, Harlen Nelson pf Marion, VA, Ryan Nelson and wife LaCresia of Fries, Virginia. Three granddaughters Stephanie Love and husband Rick of Stanley, North Carolina. Crystal Ball and husband Joe of Tazewell, Virginia. Thelma Davis and husband Kevin of Princeton, West Virginia. She has 10 great grandchildren, Breanna, Bubby, Lathan, Raelyn, Kaidence, Ashley, Brittney, Harley, Christina and Cameron. She has 2 great-great grandchildren to cherish her memories. Several nieces and nephews. Her best friend of a lifetime, prayer buddy, bible study, church family, God fearing woman- Mrs. Dolly Matney. Funeral Services will be conducted at the Country Church, Squire West Virginia, Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at 2:00 PM, with Roger Hicks, and Philip Buttery, officiating. Burial will follow in the Hartwell Cemetery in Hartwell, WV. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.
