JASON HOCKETT Jason Samuel Hockett, affectionately known as Jay, 42, of War, WV, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, Kentucky. Born July 16, 1980, in Tazewell, Virginia, he was the son of the late Jo Ann Handshoe Hockett and Howard Samuel Hockett of War. Jason graduated from Big Creek High School in War, West Virginia in 1999. He went on to study Welding at the Hobart Welding Institute in Ohio. He graduated in February of 2002 with multiple certifications. He continued his education through the Fire Service, that he dedicated almost 30 years of his life to. Not only a Firefighter, but also instructing and teaching about his passion. He received innumerable certifications, and continued his love of helping other people into the EMS service. Jason was a Skilled Tradesman, and a source of limitless information. For anyone blessed to know Jay, he was always a loyal friend. He was the type of man that would give the shirt off his back. Jay had a love for nature, and enjoyed riding his Four Wheeler, Fishing, Swimming, Jet-Ski, and observing the beauty of the wildlife. His true passion in life was for the Fire Service, and sharing that love with all those privileged to work along side him. Jay had never met a stranger, and was willing to help no matter the situation or time of day. Most memorable is the "goofy" side smile that he always wore. Jason was a man, that so many were privileged to know along his journey. Jay is survived by his Father, Howard Hockett of War WV; Brother Justin Hockett of Bristol VA; Sister and Sister-In-Law Jessica and Jamie Carignan of Bristol VA; Sister and Brother-In-Law Tanya and Steven Wilkey of Detroit MI; and his Brothers and Sisters of the War Fire Department. Jason is preceded in death by his mother, Jo Ann Hockett; Grandma and Grandpa, Mary and Gold Handshoe; Grandma Marcie Silcox, Grandma and Grandpa Georgie and Keti Hockett; Uncle Shorty; and many other heavenly angels from the Hockett family. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday September 20th, 2022 11:00 am, at the Big Creek Community Center. He will be laid to his final rest later that day at Grandview Memorial Gardens. Jason will be carried to his final rest by honored pallbearers: Justin Hockett; Doug Shelton; Josh "Sean" Collins; Joshua Asbury; Jared Mitchell; Mike Wallace; and Matthew Dash.
